The Temple City Chinese Association sponsored another New Year celebration in the park Saturday with dance and Tai Kwon Do performances as well as singers from the high school promoting their upcoming performances.
Area restaurants also provided samples of their food at no cost to those attending on Saturday.
The city starting celebrating Saturday with an afternoon festival filled with food, crafts, traditional music and dance, all free of charge.
Officials estimate that Temple City is more than 50% Asian and wanted to celebrate that diversity with this annual event.
A variety of cultural performances were offered throughout the day including the Water Dance group and special martial arts presentations from the Shaolin Temple Cultural Center.Spectators looked on as the Lun Kon Chinese Traditional Lion Dance Group performed the traditional Lion Dance.
Councilwoman Judy Wong’s mother, Wan Chun Wong, 86 years young, enjoyed the festivities Saturday as she watched the young performers present their invididual talents.
In Chinese culture, respect for one’s elders is highly important.
