Temple City Unified School District congratulates Kathy Perini for receiving a 2009 “Woman of the Year” Award for the 29th U.S. Congressional District.
At a reception held in Pasadena on March 21, 2009, Congressman Adam Schiff recognized Ms. Perini for her commitment and service to Temple City.
Kathy grew up in Temple City and did not travel far to complete her quest for higher education. She earned her degrees from the University of Southern California and became a teacher, a counselor, and in 1993, the principal at Emperor Elementary School.
Few people have the opportunity to touch their community to the degree that Kathy has. At Emperor, she has created and maintained a positive and influential relationship with students, parents, teachers, and community members. She has received national recognition for implementing a highly effective character education program. With her insight and understanding of superior teaching practices, she has worked as a consultant, helping schools throughout her community and the country to reach a higher level of understanding to empower students to be successful learners and responsible citizens. Kathy has received prestigious awards from the Oak Avenue Intermediate School PTA, the National Education Center, and the Mattel Foundation Family Learning Program.
Kathy continues to give back to the community where she grew up. In 1986, she established the non-profit Temple City Youth Development Program. As the founder and director, she has nurtured this program to benefit local students who could not normally afford to participate in extensive field study trips.
Also for the past 19 years, Kathy has been a dedicated member of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses. After serving on most of the Tournament’s committees, she is currently serving on the Executive Committee. Many people talk about giving back to their community. Kathy has not only followed this philosophy but leads by example.
Kathy is a dedicated and loyal member of the TCUSD administrative team; she models how to build a community and develops successful students who contribute to society.
