Alverno High School has joined the Sierra Madre Chamber of Commerce. Alverno High School is a Catholic, private, college preparatory school for young women dedicated to preparing them to function in a society as informed, knowledgeable persons, who have the requisite skills to make and implement mature decisions about complex problems. “In 2010 Alverno will be celebrating our 50th year as part of the Sierra Madre community, so we have deep roots in our town,” said Ann Gillick, principal of the school. “We are proud to be in Sierra Madre and we like to support it in any way we can.”
Alverno is located at 200 N Michillinda Ave., in the City of Sierra Madre.
“We’re very pleased that Alverno has decided to join the Chamber. In addition to being a fine academic institution, Alverno is well known for its arts program, and their athletic department is coming on strong with their soccer time taking the CIF championship this season,” said Bill Coburn, Executive Director of the Chamber, adding “In addition to which the school has been the site of the Friends of the Library’s Annual Wine Tasting for many years, and each year hosts the City’s “Sierra Madre Honors” Awards Dinner, as well as hosting the City’s Centennial Gala in 2007. Alverno is a valuable member of the Sierra Madre community, and we look forward to a long relationship with them.” The Chamber Board approved Alverno’s application for membership at its April 30th meeting.
