Two Candidate Forums will be held for Monrovia election hopefuls over the next two weeks.
Wednesday, March 18, candidates for Mayor will face questions from voters. Tuesday, March 24, City Council candidates will have their turns.
The election is set for Tuesday, April 14.
Both of the March forums are sponsored by the Monrovia Chamber of Commerce and both will be held at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Monrovia City Hall , 415 S. Ivy Avenue . The forums will be moderated by members of the League of Women Voters, and questions will be screened by a panel before being asked by the moderator. Audience participants may submit questions to the panel during the forum, and phone-in questions will also be accepted at (626) 932-5550.
Both forums will be televised live on KGEM, Monrovia’s public access television station, found on Channel 3 on the Time Warner cable system and Channel 6 on the Champion Broadband cable system. Live streaming of the forums will also be offered at www.kgem.tv on the web.
Three candidates are running for Mayor, with incumbent Rob Hammond stepping down after three terms. Mayoral candidates are current City Council Member Mary Ann Lutz, Mario Duran and Stephen Grollnek.
Eight candidates are running for two seats on the City Council, including incumbents Joe Garcia and Dan Kirby. Challenging them are Steve Bray, John Carlson, Sandra J. Costello, Paul Larsen, Clarence Shaw and Becky Shevlin.
