Congratulations to Kevin Patrick Kehoe Vine who became an Eagle Scout January 16, 2014. Kevin is a junior at Temple City High School as well as the current Senior Patrol Leader for Troop 161 in Temple City.
Upon earning the Arrow of Light award from Cub Scout Pack 156 at Longden School in Temple City, Kevin joined Boy Scout Troop 161 in 2009. Some of the leadership positions he has held within the Troop are Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader, Scribe, Quartermaster, Senior Patrol Leader (twice) and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. Kevin has attended five summer camps, twice to Holcomb, twice to Emerald Bay and once to Camp Whitsett. In 2010, Kevin celebrated One Hundred Years of Scouting at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia when he attended the National Jamboree. In 2013, he camped 10 days at the opening of the High Adventure, new permanent Jamboree site, in Mount Hope, West Virginia, called the Summitt Bechtel Reserve or just “The Summitt”.
For his Eagle project Kevin sanded and painted six window sills of the Atwill Building at Church of Our Saviour in San Gabriel. Kevin has earned 44 merit badges (21 of which were required for Eagle), camped 155 nights, hiked over 210 miles, completed 36 backpacking miles and cycled 391 miles since joining Troop 161. As SPL for the troop a second time, he has earned his Bronze and Gold Palm as well as the National Outdoor Badge for Camping with a silver device. Kevin is presently working on two additional badges with two gold devices, i.e., Hiking and Cycling. Last summer Kevin trained at Philmont in New Mexico attending the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE) and in 2013, he attended its prerequisite, National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT), at Camp Trask where he received the Oakie Medallion. Recognized by the American Red Cross as Wilderness First Aid trained, Kevin is also a “Leave No Trace” trainer.
Kevin is presently enjoying his work as a member of the Temple City High School Art and Film group, Dragon Flicks. This is his second year with Dragon Flicks. Both Kevin’s older brothers are Eagle Scouts, Bryan, 1999 and Jason, 2002. Kevin lives with his parents, Von and Kathy Vine, in Temple City and has been a member of The Church of Our Saviour since birth, having been baptized here in 1997. As an Acolyte Team Leader he has been serving the church for over 5 years. Kevin enjoyed playing piano for more than 6 years and just recently stopped to pursue other interests. Bowling, driving and music are his main interests, however, Kevin loves scouting and everything that makes the program so great.
Kevin’s Eagle Court of Honor will be held at The Church of Our Saviour, 535 West Roses Road, San Gabriel, on Sunday, October 26, 2014, at 4:00pm. A dinner reception will follow.
