Health Week 2009 “Making Healthier Choices”

March 22nd, 2009 by Temple City Tribune

In honor of National Nutrition Month, St. Philip the Apostle School in Pasadena will celebrate its 2nd annual Health Week from March 16th – March 20th. Classroom sessions and school activities will promote nutrition, fitness, smart food choices, and a healthy lifestyle for the children.
During the week, children will participate in fun, health related activities. There will be a classroom fruit and vegetable challenge, education on how to make healthy choices when eating out, and a poster contest. The Dairy Council of California will bring a live cow to school which will surely get the kids excited. The week will culminate with a school wide Health Fair where students will enjoy healthy baked goods, speak to a Dairy Council representative, take a fitness test, and participate in fun, interactive health related games.
Some of the educational sessions and activities will help students make informed, healthy decisions when dining out or eating at fast food restaurants. According to Wendy Crump, St. Philip School parent and a registered dietician, “Fast food meals are a reality for most families, at least occasionally, if not more often. There are “simple steps to help ensure that kids get the nutrition they need when eating fast food.” Students will become aware of healthy eating options during Health Week.
