Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue teams located the lost hiker, Donald Buchanan, missing in the Angeles National Forest since Saturday morning, 01/26/14.
At approximately 1030am, an LA Sheriff’s Search and Rescue ground team heard a faint whistle from across a ravine, while searching along a trail near the Mt. Baden Powell peak. The team was able to hike closer to the sound of the whistle, and soon made voice contact with Buchanan. Buchanan called out to the rescue crew, and said he was uninjured.
Sheriff’s Rescue Helicopter, Air-5 Rescue, searched the cliff ridge, and spotted Buchanan at the top of the cliff face. A Sheriff’s paramedic was lowered down via hoist, and performed a quick medical evaluation of the lost hiker including checking him for hypothermia from exposure to the overnight elements. Buchanan was hoisted up to Air-5, and flown to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The overnight temperature was below 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
