Shots Fired in Monrovia

March 22nd, 2009 by Temple City Tribune

Shots were fired from a vehicle into an apartment building in the 900 block of W. Olive Ave. in Monrovia. MPD officers and detectives were on the scene in response to a call reporting five shots fired just before 4 p.m.

According to an officer on the scene, one person from within the building was injured by the gunfire and has been transferred to the hospital for treatment. The mother of the victim, who asked not to be identified, made a point to let our reporter know that her son was not a gang member.

According to the woman, her son is a 20 year-old African-American male who was outside the home when a black Chevrolet Suburban, apparently unprovoked, pulled up and opened fire on the man.

Small evidence cones were seen around the area, presumably marking the location of bullet casings intended to be collected for use as forensic evidence.

Check back for photos and further updates as they become available.
