PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT:
CAMELLIA FESTIVAL – the 65th annual Camellia Festival takes place this coming weekend. The Carnival will be held in Temple City Park beginning Friday, February 20th. Days as hours are:
Friday 2/20 4 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Saturday 2/21 12 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Sunday 2.22 12 p.m. – 8 p.m.
The Camellia Festival Parade will be held on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. The parade will begin at Las Tunas and Sultana and will continue east on Las Tunas to Rowland.
Street Closures for the parade:
Las Tunas – between Rosemead Blvd. and Baldwin (8 a.m. – 1 p.m.)
Sultana – between Broadway and Hermosa (6 a.m. – 1 p.m.)
Hart and Loma – between Hermosa and Las Tunas (6 a.m. – 1 p.m.)
Hermosa – between Rosemead and Encinita (6 a.m. – 1 p.m.)
In addition, parking will be restricted in and around the parade route. Please pay close attention to all posted “NO Parking” signs.
CAMELLIA FESTIVAL PRE-SALE RIDE TICKETS – Presale carnival ride tickets for the 2009 Camellia Festival will go on sale February 2nd at City Hall and at Live Oak Park. Sheets of 20 tickets will be sold for $10 from February 2 – 19. The Camellia Festival Carnival will be held February 20, 21, and 22 in Temple City Park.
LIVE OAK PARK CONSTRUCTION – Construction will begin Tuesday, February 17th on a new multipurpose facility at Live Oak Park. The new facility will be located on the northwest corner of the park and will include meeting room, restrooms, and offices.
MANAGEMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT:
Re-plays of the Temple City, City Council Candidate Forum held on Monday, February 9, 2009, at Temple City High School, 9501 E. Lemon Ave., Room 601, Temple City, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. are now playing on Charter Communications Cable TV – Channel 55.
The forum, which was sponsored by the Temple City Chamber of Commerce and moderated by the League of Women Voters, runs approximately one hour and 31 minutes long. Replays of the forum are running 24 hours a day-seven days a week on Channel 55. The forum replays will continue until after the election on March 3, 2009. Taping of the forum is courtesy of Jerry Jambazian and the Temple City Chamber of Commerce.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT:
The next meeting Planning Commission will be held on February 24, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at the Civic Center, 5938 Kauffman Ave.
PUBLIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT:
Public Safety Volunteer – The City of Temple City is looking for people interested in becoming a Public Safety Volunteer. Two programs are available in the Public Safety Volunteer program. They are the Resident Safety Volunteer Patrol (RSVP) and the Temple City Emergency Radio Team (TCERT). Applications and additional information for the RSVP or TCERT programs may be obtained from the Public Services Department at the Civic Center, 5938 Kauffman Avenue, by calling (626) 285-2171 or by e-mailing Public Safety Officer Bryan Ariizumi at email@example.com.
