PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT:
STARS CLUB – The 3rd session of STARS Club begins March 2nd. STARS Club is offered at Cleminson, Cloverly, La Rosa, Longden and Emperor Elementary Schools from school dismissal until 6 p.m. STARS Club is an afterschool recreation program for children in 1st – 6th grade. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT:
The next meeting Planning Commission will be held on February 24, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at the Civic Center, 5938 Kauffman Ave. The Planning Commission will hold a study session regarding the East Commercial (EC) District of the Downtown Specific Plan area to determine if the matrix of permitted uses should be amended to allow more uses.
MANAGEMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT:
Re-plays of the Temple City, City Council Candidate Forum held on Monday, February 9, 2009, at Temple City High School, 9501 E. Lemon Ave., Room 601, Temple City, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. are now playing on Charter Communications Cable TV – Channel 55 in Temple City.
The forum, which was sponsored by the Temple City Chamber of Commerce and moderated by the League of Women Voters, runs approximately one hour and 31 minutes long. Replays of the forum are running 24 hours a day-seven days a week on Channel 55. The forum replays will continue until after the election on March 5, 2009. Taping of the forum is courtesy of Jerry Jambazian and the Temple City Chamber of Commerce.
PUBLIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT:
Public Safety Volunteer – The City of Temple City is looking for people interested in becoming a Public Safety Volunteer. Two programs are available in the Public Safety Volunteer program. They are the Resident Safety Volunteer Patrol (RSVP) and the Temple City Emergency Radio Team (TCERT). Applications and additional information for the RSVP or TCERT programs may be obtained from the Public Services Department at the Civic Center, 5938 Kauffman Avenue, by calling (626) 285-2171 or by e-mailing Public Safety Officer Bryan Ariizumi at firstname.lastname@example.org.
OUTDOOR WATER CONSERVATION TIPS:
What you can do, and how much water you can save!
– Water your yard only before 8 am or after 4 pm to reduce evaporation & wind interference . . . . . 25 gallons per day
– Install a “smart” sprinkler controller . . . . 40 gallons per day
– Use a broom instead of a hose to clean paved areas . . . . 150 gallons each time
– Check your sprinkler system for leaks, overspray, & broken sprinkler heads . . . . 500 gallons per month
– Mulch! Hundreds of gallons a year can be saved by using organic mulch around plants to reduce evaporation.
