COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT:
The Planning Commission’s regularly scheduled meeting of December 23, 2008, has been cancelled. The next meeting will be held on January 13, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at the Civic Center, 5938 Kauffman Ave.
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT:
YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE – Registration continues for the City’s youth basketball league. The league is open to boys and girls from 4 years of age through the 8th grade. Fee is $75 ($65 for STARS Club and Teen Zone members) and includes instruction, league play, jersey, and individual trophies. Deadline to register is January 9th (if space permits). Registration is being accepted at the Live Oak Park Community Center.
5K Walking Club – Shape Up TC will be offering a 5K Walking Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. beginning January 6th at Temple City Park. The 5 week session will include distance walks to prepare for a 5K walk. Pre-registration is required and is ongoing at the Live Oak Park Community Center until January 2nd. Fee is $5 and includes a Shape Up TC t-shirt.
WATER CONSERVATION TIP:
Even with the current rains, water conservation remains a very important fact of life for Southern California. Make it your New Year’s resolution to commit yourself to significant water conservation for 2009! Remember . . . every drop of water conserved is one more we have available for our future!
PUBLIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT:
Public Safety Volunteer – The City of Temple City is looking for people interested in becoming a Public Safety Volunteer. Two programs are available in the Public Safety Volunteer program. They are the Resident Safety Volunteer Patrol (RSVP) and the Temple City Emergency Radio Team (TCERT). Applications and additional information for the RSVP or TCERT programs may be obtained from the Public Services Department at the Civic Center, 5938 Kauffman Avenue, by calling (626) 285-2171 or by e-mailing Public Safety Officer Bryan Ariizumi at firstname.lastname@example.org.
MANAGEMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT:
YARD SALES: Temple City residents wanting to conduct a yard sale MUST have a permit. They are available from the receptionist desk at City Hall, 9701 Las Tunas Drive, during normal business hours, which are Mon.-Thurs. 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. City Hall is closed on Fridays. The permits are FREE, and residents may only conduct one yard sale within a six-month period.
FREE YARD SALE ADVERTISING: If you get your yard sale permit by Thursday noon (or earlier) the week prior to the sale (i.e. about nine days prior to your sale), you’ll get the sale listed in that week’s Temple City Tribune newspaper in the “Temple City Spotlight” section for free. The Temple City Tribune comes out every Monday, and is available at many popular locations throughout Temple City.
