The California Police Chiefs Association Mourns with Oakland Police Department

March 23rd, 2009 by Temple City Tribune

Sacramento, CA – The California Chiefs of Police Association, on behalf of Police

Chiefs throughout the state, extends its deepest condolences to the families of the four

officers killed in the line of duty this past weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with

them and the Oakland Police Department as we mourn the loss of four men who made

the ultimate sacrifice in the name of community safety.

“These murders are the most tragic suffered by California law enforcement in several

decades. They are a reminder of the dangers police personnel face each and every

day,” says Pasadena Chief of Police and CPCA President Bernard Melekian. “Every

day, officers are confronted with the worst of the human condition. And every day they

meet those challenges head on with courage and bravery. All of the officers who served

on that call deserve our utmost thanks and respect. “

The CPCA will assist the Oakland Police Department in any way that it can during this

difficult time with the intent, as an organization and as individuals it represents, to insure

that the help, support and assistance that is needed will be provided the members of the

department and their families.
