Behind three rushing touchdowns from senior Michael Chan (#21), the San Marino Titans (4-3, 2-0 Rio Hondo) beat the Temple City Rams (1-6, 0-2) 35-0 Friday night in Temple City. San Marino sophomore Beau Hobbie (#24) scored two rushing touchdowns for the Titans, whose run-exclusive offense flummoxed their league opponents throughout the entire game.
Hobbie opened the scoring on a twelve-yard reverse early in the second quarter, while Chan added another touchdown on a two-yard direct snap on San Marino’s next possession. The Rams held the Titans scoreless in the first quarter, but couldn’t contain San Marino’s mix of run options, direct snaps, and reverses featuring Chan, Hobbie, and junior quarterback Blake Cabot (#14).
The closest the Rams came to scoring was on a 30-yard pass from quarterback Justin Bowman (#15) to junior Darnell Spratt (#85) early in the fourth quarter. Bowman faked a draw and found Spratt open down the middle of the field. Spratt then fumbled the ball after a chase down tackle right before reaching the end zone, and San Marino recovered on their own ten-yard line. Cabot took the very next play for 84 yards on a draw, setting up the Titan’s final score on a one-yard run from Chan.
The win keeps the Titans in a three-way league tie for first place with Monrovia and South Pasadena, while the Titans remain winless in league play. San Marino looks to break that tie at Monrovia next Friday at 7 P.M., while Temple City aims for their first league win hosting La Cañada at the same time.
